A beautiful clarity of fruit aromas displays ripe, opulent blueberries and black cherries, with more subtle base notes of star anise, rose petal, and vanilla. At entry, the fresh fruit dominates the palate, while the bright, juicy acidity and broad tannins follow in the mid-palate. While enough backbone and grip present themselves to clearly indicate age-worthiness, this wine shows vibrance and intensity, tempered by silkiness and viscosity, all of which combine to make the wine enjoyable even in its youth. – Celia Welch, Winemaker

"At first whiff, this multi-dimensional wine shows swirling aromas of blueberry, rose petal and bright cherry-vanilla cola notes. Soft and silky at entry, the mid-palate builds with flavor while the tannins remain full, soft, and approachable. As the wine slowly fades, the lingering flavors show fresh berry notes combined with a touch of dark chocolate." - Celia Welch, winemaker.
The 2017 LAZ Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon combines 82% Cabernet Sauvignon with 10% Malbec, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. Each lot was fermented and aged in French oak (60% new) before blending just prior to bottling. The wine was bottled without fining or filtration after approximately 19 months in oak barrels. A total of 95 cases and 30-1.5L Magnum bottles were bottled on May 31, 2019.

We recently partnered with Hedonic Terroir-Driven Coffee to create this proprietary blend of K. LAZ WINE COLLECTION Coffee. This coffee is designed for wine lovers who want to get deeper into coffee by exploring the unique sensory parallels our two favorite beverages share. In essence, it’s for those who care as much about what’s in their morning cup of coffee as in their glass of wine. To ensure this, we roast the beans at the local roastery co-op upon order. For orders placed today, we are roasting the beans tomorrow to ship on Wednesday.
Like with wine, where coffee is grown, how it is farmed, and what type of beans the final blend is comprised of matters. We tasted multiple blends to create this final blend, which is comprised of 100% Sumatra coffee, sourced from the stunning Karo Highlands of Indonesia’s most famous coffee-growing lands. Smallholding farmers in the district of Paranginan, Humbahas Province, planted trees of the Tim Tim, Catimor, and Lasuna varieties of Arabica ranging in elevation between 3600-4430 feet. This green coffee was processed by a meticulous version of Indonesia’s classic wet-hulled method, in which the fruit, after being pulped, is dried for a much briefer time than traditional washed processing would dictate. Leaving some mucilage on the beans allows existing microorganisms to begin to metabolize the sugars, acids, and other compounds, resulting in a distinct flavor profile — earthy, chocolaty, deep — and a particularly rich, full body.
Roasting techniques determine which characteristics of the green coffee to emphasize. Because the wine parallel here is Cabernet Sauvignon, we went with a darker profile that accentuates the deep-toned nature of this coffee, which is a direct result of its terroir. It’s best brewed at a coffee-to-water ratio of 1:15 at a temperature of approximately 204 degrees Fahrenheit. Grind size should be determined by your specific brew method. Because this is a darker-roasted coffee, it makes for an excellent cappuccino or other milk-based drink.
Below are the newest offerings available from Realm Cellars. With 2002 as their inaugural vintage, founder Juan Mercado launched Realm thanks to forging great relationships with renowned Napa Valley growers, including Andy Beckstoffer and Tom Farella. Realm was first produced at Sherwin Family and later Chateau Boswell before Realm's partner, Scott Becker, and winemaker Benoit Touquette reached out to the Hartwell Family to acquire their Stags Leap District estate property and ultimately, what is now the new home for Realm. As Hartwell's winemaker, Benoit knew their vineyard, soil and potential that could come from replanting and reinvigorating the estate. These newest vintage Reds will only benefit with time in bottle. While the 2018 vintage is known to be captivating almost immediately upon opening, these wines will continue to evolve and show more layers with another 10-12 years in bottle. If you'd rather not wait, at least pull the cork and let the wine open throughout the day or decant them for a few hours. This is a one-time allocation so orders will be filled as received.
To make room for all the spring releases we've brought into our cellar these past few months, enjoy trying a few of these 'Last Bottle' wines. Special pricing is reflected with each wine and are net priced. Happy shopping and cheers!
2018 was an exceptional vintage for Napa Valley and thanks to my winemaker, Celia Welch, it was also an incredible year for LAZ. Similar in style to the 2016 vintage, the 2018 release offers a touch more structure and depth on the palate and came together the best way possible in the bottle. This wine is enjoyable to drink now and will continue to evolve if laid down for a few years. "This Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon shows a tremendous range of aromas immediately upon pouring: Baked plums, bright blackberries, fresh red cherries, tarragon, earthy pine duff, baking spices. Soft and satiny at entry, the wine displays an immediate sense of density and generosity, which increases as the wine spends time on the palate. Flavors of baked cherries and plums, dusty blueberries, vanilla, earthy notes, and toasty oak all intermingle. Toward the finish, the lingering impression is of bright purple fruits." - Celia Welch, winemaker

Journey back to the early days when Shirley & Charles Roy embarked on their winemaking venture, capturing the attention of me & my wine team at DEAN & DELUCA shortly before launching their debut 2003 vintage. We took a significant position in helping to launch their brand. Everything fit- their story, the pedigree of their team, the quality of their wine. Helen Turley planted their vineyard and Philippe Melka became their winemaker. The first years of Roy Estate were compelling, but we thought that in time, as the vines matured, they would reveal their potential.
The winery has experienced a significant evolution since those beginning years. In 2017, ownership changed (Shirley is still involved as a brand ambassador) and shortly after they lost most of the buildings, including their house in the wildfires. But since then, while they’ve replanted and rebuilt, the land remains the constant.
So almost 20 years later, I was finally able to make time to visit Roy Estate. It was worth the wait. The 2019 is the best vintage I’ve tasted of their wines. They continue to make their Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Mr. Evan’s Red, the Estate Red named in honor of their neighbor & longtime friend, Mr. Evans. Each wine is specifically coming from the two different unique soil aspects which frame each separate vineyard on the property. This hidden gem nestled in the valley is where tranquility meets nature’s beauty. It’s a sanctuary where the rugged, untamed hills spill into the carefully farmed vineyard blocks.
Quite the morning at Bella Oaks Winery...here were the highlights....
1. Welcomed with a glass of Champagne Frederic Savart Grand Cru Éphémère 2017- first time trying and loved it????
2. Revisiting the grounds that included familiar & new art side by side with familiar & new vineyard plantings by David Abreu and his viticulture team ????
3. Tasting the newly released 2017 vintage of Bella Oaks Proprietary Red. Bella Oaks debuted with the 2018 as the first vintage to the public, but it was actually their 2017 that marked the inaugural release under the new stewardship of Suzanne Deal Booth and winemaker Nigel Kinsman????
If you’re planning to jump into the day with a morning tasting, Matthiasson is the way to go. Never overbearing and always brimming with just the right amount of acidity, their Whites and Rosé have been on our go-to list for years. Great to revisit some of their key labels alongside many new ones too. Their take on Vermentino and Chardonnay stood out. The Napa Valley White was just as good as we remembered it being since the earlier years.
Dalla Valle Vineyards overlooks the Napa Valley floor from a hillside terrace 500 feet above the Silverado Trail in Oakville. Since Gustav and Naoko Dalla Valle purchased the property in 1982 and began planting vines, this exceptional acreage has continually distinguished itself as the ideal site for producing some of the world’s finest wines, thanks to the perfect convergence of lingering sunlight, cooling marine influence and red volcanic soil.
We visited Dalla Valle in July 2023 and tasted 2019 and 2020 vintages with Maya. The canopies in the vineyard were robust and they were full steam ahead on renovating their winery.
Plinth was born from a strong foundation in the wine industry laid by Flora and Jason Chang in 2010, when they acquired prime land on Pritchard Hill to establish Houyi Vineyard and their winery, Nine Suns. Although the Changs transferred ownership of Nine Suns and the rocky-soiled Houyi Vineyard to their long-time clients, Realm Cellars, in 2022, they retained access to the exceptional fruit they cultivated. The name Plinth symbolizes the strong roots of this venture, now expertly guided by winemaker Philippe Melka. Flora remains actively involved in Plinth's operations, often stopping by to introduce us to upcoming releases before they reach the public.
MOWE's origins are uniquely tied to the wine industry. For over 20 years, Dustin Mowe has led a top-tier wine cork company, supplying corks to California's finest wineries. Dustin and his wife Renee’s passion for wine led them to raise their two children in Napa Valley, dreaming of owning a vineyard. In 2020, that dream became reality when they purchased a 1-acre vineyard on Silverado Trail. Learning that David Abreu had planted the vines in 1990 with the renowned Spottwoode clone, they knew they had to make their own wine.
With a long-standing love for Sauvignon Blanc, the couple chose to produce a white wine alongside their Estate Cabernet. They enlisted their friend Maayan Koschitzky, Director of Winemaking at Atelier Melka, who introduced them to a top dry-farmed, cool-climate vineyard in Coombsville AVA. Today, Maayan oversees their Sauvignon Blanc, while Matt Sands of Lithology crafts their Cabernet Sauvignon nearby.
We're excited to share a few new releases with you this morning. Lately, I've been gaining an even deeper appreciation for Napa Valley wines with some age, so I reached out to these two outstanding wineries to see if they’d be willing to release a selection of library wines from their cellar. Sourcing directly from the winery ensures impeccable provenance and ideal storage, something especially important for older vintages. -K. LAZ

Sine Qua Non is one of the most sought-after and cult-status wineries in the world, known for its rare, Rhône-style wines crafted with meticulous attention to detail. Founded by Manfred and Elaine Krankl in California, SQN is celebrated for its ever-changing blends, artistic labels, and an uncompromising commitment to quality. Each vintage is a unique expression of creativity, making their wines nearly impossible to find and highly coveted by collectors.
In the mid-2000s, Manfred shifted toward estate-grown fruit, planting their own vineyards—most notably Eleven Confessions in the Sta. Rita Hills, followed by The Third Twin in Los Alamos and others. This move allowed them greater control over farming practices and quality, further refining their signature style. Today, nearly all SQN wines come from their estate vineyards, marking a shift from their early days of vineyard sourcing to a more self-sustained and terroir-driven approach.
We were able to secure a selection of library offerings to help offset the smaller allocations of the current release.

I’m excited to officially share the release of the 2022 LAZ Cabernet Sauvignon—a vintage that marks a significant new chapter for LAZ. After the loss of the 2020 vintage, this release feels especially meaningful, as it also begins my dedicated grower partnership with Sylvan Lake Vineyard, sourcing Cabernet Sauvignon exclusively from this high-elevation site on Howell Mountain.
My winemaker, Celia Welch, and I believe Sylvan Lake is truly special. The 4.5-acre vineyard, planted in 2014, yielded about 2.25 tons per acre in 2022. All fruit was hand-picked, with Celia’s precise harvest decisions to ensure only clusters showing balanced ripeness and acidity made it into the tank. A small addition of Malbec and Merlot rounds out the blend, enhancing depth, structure, and complexity in what we believe is one of our most expressive vintages to date.
A few days ago, on Sunday, I opened a bottle to see how it’s evolved since we bottled it in May 2024. From the first pour, generous aromas of wild brambly fruit—blackberry and raspberry—filled the glass. After a 45-minute decant, the wine deepened in complexity, layering dark fruit with graphite, subtle mountain spice, and a polished finish that reflects its age-worthy style. It reminds me of the 2015 LAZ in both style and structure—and leaves you wanting another glass.
We made just 75 cases and 18- 1.5L magnum bottles of this limited production and I can’t wait for you to experience it.
Thank you!
- Kerrin Laz
LAZ
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
2019 marks our 6th vintage of LAZ. Crafted from an artistic blend
of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, this
Napa Valley Cabernet was harvested at full flavor-ripeness from
October 15 through October 30, fermented on skins for
approximately 25 days, transferred to French oak barrels (50%
new), and aged in oak for approximately 18 months. The wine
was blended and bottled without fining or filtration on May 12,
2021. It will rest in bottle for almost 24 months before getting
released in Spring 2023.
