Preface is a must-have, delivering extraordinary value with its classic Bordeaux blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Malbec, 12% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc. It perfectly captures the essence of Alexander Valley. The nose enchants with crème de cassis, blue fruit, lavender, and worn leather, while a hint of espresso emerges on the palate. Velvety tannins and a long, delicious finish make it irresistible. Aged for 19 months in just 31% new French oak, it showcases both subtlety and a deep respect for terroir and varietal character. 393 cases were produced.
The beauty of Skipstone’s amphitheater-shaped vineyard, terraced into the hillside of Alexander Valley, is breathtaking. Just fifteen minutes from Healdsburg, it feels like another world. Sitting atop the Mayacamas Faultline, the site benefits from diverse soil types created by seismic activity, resulting in varied flavor profiles from each vineyard block. Vintner Fahri Diner, who began his dream vineyard after a career in venture capital, returned to his roots as a native of Cyprus, where his family were olive farmers. Today, Skipstone grows both wine grapes and Manzanilla olives, practicing organic farming with a focus on a holistic ecosystem.
Despite Fahri's agricultural background, he and Constance sought expert winemaking guidance. They brought in Laura Jones, the skilled winemaker behind the recent K. LAZ selection, Sphaerics. Laura has gained experience across three continents, including several seasons as assistant winemaker at Aubert Wines. Philippe Melka also lends his expertise, serving as a consultant for the winery.
