Matt Morris Wines is brought to us from local famed photographer, Matt Morris and renowned winemaker, Francoise Peschon. Most know of Francoise through her winemaking efforts at VHR-Vine Hill Ranch, Heimark, Cornell and Drinkward Peschon but this smaller project is unique because it is all about Charbono and more importantly, Charbono being produced with the same attention to detail and expertise as the Cabernets that Francoise is most known for producing. Fifty-two acres of Charbono is planted in Napa Valley today, with a mere twenty-seven acres planted in other regions of California. In contrast, there are about 18,000 acres currently planted to Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley and that number is obviously growing. This Red is a blend of 50% Charbono from Tofanelli and Shypoke vineyards, 35% Petite Syrah from Grant Street vineyard (Francoise’s front yard), and 15% Syrah from Bien Nacido and White Hawk vineyards. Dark red fruit, ranging from raspberry to plum, dominates the palate alongside espresso notes. It is a full Red that will only benefit from aging in the bottle. 125 cases were produced.
