Last month we offered the debut vintage of Impensata Merlot and now we are excited to offer the debut of their Proprietary Red. As you may recall, Impensata is the newest winery with Nigel Kinsman as the winemaker, David Abreu as their viticulturist and Michel Rolland, their consulting enologist. It is comprised of two estate vineyards- the historic Engelhard Vineyard in the western hills of Calistoga and the Ciminelli Vineyard tucked into the summit of Howell Mountain at 2200 feet in elevation, which is in its 2nd leaf this year. This 2018 debut vintage comes from Engelhard Vineyard and is comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon, with 11% Cabernet Franc, 9% Petit Verdot, 6% Malbec, and 4% Merlot. “Deeply concentrated and beautifully balanced with dark black fruits, crème de cassis, and plum compote, along with savory notes of wild sage, menthol, licorice, and exotic spices. Structured tannins and classic freshness deliver a wine that will age gracefully for decades.” This is an exciting new winery in Napa Valley and one to try. 223 cases were produced.
