This newly released library offering is comprised of fruit from the legendary viticulturist David Abreu’s Cappella and Madrona Ranch in the western side of St. Helena and Las Posadas Vineyard on Howell Mountain.It captures all the Abreu signatures in a more approachable style that also comes with a relatively accessible price tag by Napa Valley standards. The 2017 is mainly Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot rounding out the profile. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot comes from Madrona Ranch and Cappella and the Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot comes from Las Posadas. Scents of blue fruit, graphite, charcoal dominate the palate with supple tannins that will mellow out with more time in the bottle or with an hour-long decant. Like in previous vintages, this is a leader in its price point because of its style, structure, and aging potential. Abreu Vineyards is by far one of the best producers coming out of California today. Coming from the viticulture side, David Abreu farms his vineyards meticulously and their wines show it.
