100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the flagship wine of Plinth from the storied Houyi Vineyard, leads with black currant and soft herb notes. The vineyard rests at 1300 feet and rests above the fog line, giving the vines ample time to soak up the morning sun. The firm tannins on the palate leave no question that this is a classic representation of Howell Mountain. Winemaker Philippe Melka opts for 22 months in new French oak, highlighting his ability to bring balance to the powerful mountain fruit. We can’t think of many wines that deliver this type of value. 125 cases produced.
Since the sale of Nine Suns to Realm Cellars, Flora and Jason Chang continue to stay busy with Plinth, their wine label they began a few years ago. Under the winemaking direction of Philippe Melka and continued relationship with Realm Cellars, Plinth produces its own expression of Pritchard Hill with a very limited batch of Houyi Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon wines. At an elevation of nearly 1300 feet, the 22-acre vineyard sits above the fog line, its vines soaking in the morning sun. The vineyard is full of dense, volcanic rock. This unique soil provides an environment for the vines to produce concentrated fruit.
