We tasted this debut vintage of 'Metta' from NAMO for the first-time last month at Philippe Melka’s tasting at Premiere Napa Valley, the barrel auction exclusively for trade and media, sponsored by Napa Valley Vintners. Like the NAMO last year, this 2019 'Betta' was a standout amongst approximately 30 wines we tasted at that specific event. Made by winemaker Nick Briggs and consulting winemaker Philippe Melka, it is outstanding by opening with a burst of sweet red cherries, black currants, and plums with a 'waft of pine resin, conifer forest, and chaparral. Mineral notes of crushed rock and white clay abound in the glass, accented by violets and spice box.' Both the nose and palate display a youthful exuberance. The palate is a shot of red fruit and currants with great structure all the way through. A lively acidity brings tension that holds the wine firmly from front to back. The wine extends, long and enjoyable with lingering flavors of red fruits, crushed rock, and subtle oak with a wonderful mouth filling texture.
