We recently visited this impressive property just off Silverado Trail, past Soda Canyon Road in Napa. Tucked into the trees, we actually passed it when trying to get there for the first time. A lot of effort has been put into this estate property in the last few years. Farming by Mike Wolf (one of my favorite viticulturists) and winemaking by Andy Erickson (also not too shabby considering his track record at Dalla Valle, Screaming Eagle, Staglin, Favia…) has proven to be key factors in helping to elevate this 20-acre vineyard and winery to the next level. This Estate Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a specific vineyard block each year and the reason for that is all about the soil designate. Volcanic ash is what comprises this special spot at ELLMAN, giving this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon extra concentration and complexity. 231 cases were produced.
