The original Hundred Acre vineyard, formerly known as Kayli Morgan, has been the source of a startling eleven 100-point vintages. The site is perched 500 feet off the valley floor and Pruned to a nearly unheard of one cluster per vine for utmost concentration. The 2021 is seductive with ripe black currant, five spice, cigar and a liquid velvet palate.

Beginning with the 2019 vintage, vintner and winemaker, Jayson Woodbridge, renamed ‘Kayli Morgan’ to ‘Morgan’s Way’ as a tribute to his only daughter, Morgan. I have known Morgan since she was little, and she is more than worthy of having a wine named after her. This estate vineyard was the first Hundred Acre bottling that Jayson Woodbridge produced in 2000 so this newest release marks Hundred Acre’s 20th vintage. This particular estate vineyard is located just north of Saint Helena, at the base of Howell Mountain, and has soils that are a chocolatey clay, holding moisture to keep the vines cool. As summer progresses, the ground forms micro-cracks, allowing the roots to seek water deeper and deeper into the earth. As they do, they pick up minerals that give the vineyard its distinctive characteristics.

We were the first to take a significant position with Hundred Acre beginning with their debut 2000 vintage when I was with Dean & DeLuca and since then, we have had the opportunity to enjoy and share every release.
