The 2021 Cresta Velia Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from younger plantings in the southwest portion of Mt. Veeder. The thin and rocky soils, combined with the elevation and cooling effect from the bay, contribute to the flavor development of this wine. Made from Clones 169 and 685, it showcases notes of cassis, red plums, wild scrub brush, and scorched earth. On the palate, it is beautiful with supple tannins, medium to full body, balanced flavors, and a great finish. John Giannini, the vintner/owner of Cresta Velia, has been the assistant winemaker at Outpost on Howell Mountain since the late 2000s. He learned directly from winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown after a chance meeting at a volleyball game. John continues to work with Thomas at Outpost while also producing Cresta Velia. Despite being a secret among winemakers and industry veterans, John has been making outstanding wines since his debut vintage in 2009.
