Domaine Garnier et Fils ‘Montmains’ 1er Cru Chablis 2022
Montmains belongs to the subset of Chablis known for its classic steely, mineral-driven verve. Though Domaine Garnier has deep roots in the region, it was a recent discovery for us while perched at the bar of local favorite Torc, searching for an apéritif-hour white that wouldn’t break the bank. What landed in our glasses far exceeded expectations, punching well above its weight. The Garnier family has farmed these vineyards for decades, but brothers Xavier and Jérome are the first to estate-bottle their wines. Certified organic as of 2024, they harvest slightly later than neighbors for added fruit and lushness, while restrained oak keeps the balance crisp. This Montmains shows golden apple, salted almond, and iodine—perfect on its own or with seafood.
Château de Charodon Puligny-Montrachet 2023
Born into a Gevrey-Chambertin family rooted in red Burgundy, Louis Vallet traveled widely to broaden his winemaking perspective before returning just miles from home. Now holding long-term leases on organically farmed vineyards, he has grown Charodon from a 100-case debut in 2010 to 3,500 cases today. A force of nature, his gregarious spirit and passion shine through in wines of energy, complexity, and generosity. The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet comes from 40–45-year-old vines on prime clay and limestone soils. Fermentation took place in 90% stainless steel and 10% used barrel, followed by 18 months of aging in 25% new oak, with only 6–8 barrels produced each year. The result is a beautifully balanced wine, with vivacious tart orchard fruit at its core, supported by minerality and fine structure. We’re thrilled to showcase the wines of this rising star.
Joseph Colin ‘Hereditas’ Chassagne-Montrachet 2023
In Burgundy, location is everything—and ‘Hereditas’ is a prime example. From 70+ year-old vines in three parcels bordering Grand Cru Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet—whose wines cost 4–5 times more—this bottling showcases the magic of terroir. Fermented with indigenous yeast in older barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered, it offers lifted notes of apricot blossom, lemon, and almond skin—seductive in both elegance and concentration. Joseph Colin seems to outdo himself with each vintage. Part of a classic Burgundian winemaking family, his father Marc Colin and younger brother Pierre-Yves Colin (PYCM) are both legends in their own right. To establish his domaine, Joseph took roughly 6 hectares from his father’s original estate. If it’s true that it takes 20 years to truly know a vineyard, Joseph is already deeply familiar with his.
Domaine Buisson-Charles ‘Tessons’ Meursault 2023
This organic estate, now in its fourth generation, is a classic, producing Meursault proud of its natural richness. What sets it apart is the impressive concentration in its wines. ‘Tessons’ sits mid-slope on a southeast-facing exposure, ensuring optimal ripening, which is then balanced in the cellar with just 20% new oak. After succeeding her father, Catherine Buisson partnered with her husband, Patrick Essa, who now leads winemaking with a hands-off approach—no sulfur in vinification and bottling unfined and unfiltered. Buisson-Charles embraces richness, yet the wines finish with tension and acidity. For those who love an unctuous, naturally rich core balanced by structure and minerality, this wine delivers.
