Showcasing the distinctive attributes of those vineyard blocks, the 2020 Vine Hill Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon is "dark, highly structured, and wonderfully expressive. Blackberry fruit, gravel, spice, menthol, licorice, and cedar provide layers of breadth and texture. The vintage’s expansive and lush mouthfeel is framed by fine-grain tannins, dark ripe fruit, and vibrant acidity. Elegant and complex, possessed of a signature depth and exquisite balance, the 2020 VHR Cabernet Sauvignon perfectly captures the unique terroir of our family’s vineyard in Oakville." Led by winemaker, Francoise Peschon, and vineyard manager, Mike Wolf, it comes from a selection of the seven blocks situated across the 70-acre vineyard on Bruce and Heather Phillips’ western Oakville property. Vine Hill Ranch began in 1959 when Bruce’s father, Bob Phillips, began farming grapes. Most of the fruit continues to be sold to longtime winery clients as well as newer ones who are fortunate to now source from this premier grower vineyard. Since 2008, the Phillips family has kept a little fruit back to produce their own estate Cabernet. Each year, the VHR Cabernet Sauvignon is compiled on an annual basis with the objective of showcasing the varied nature of this site through a wine of complexity and depth, and ability to produce Cabernet Sauvignon wines of singular expression.
