Shannon Staglin joined us as a panelist for this year’s Inspire Napa Valley VIP Wine Seminar, themed “A Deep Dive into Rutherford.” Moderated by Antonio Galloni with Ray Isle as lead panelist, Shannon was in excellent company alongside winemakers Nigel Kinsman, Dan Petroski, BV’s Megan Twitchell, and rising-star viticulturist Domenick Bianco, who currently farms some of Rutherford’s most preeminent vineyards, including Scarecrow’s JJ Cohn Vineyard and Sacrashe Vineyard.
Among the standout moments was the Staglin 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, which Shannon generously shared with our 75 guests. Universally agreed to be the best wine of the seminar, it impressed with its elegance and layered complexity. While 2014 was initially seen as softer following the intensity of 2013, this wine was singing—nuanced, expressive, and a true knockout. If you haven’t yet tried it, now’s the time—while we still have access to this limited allocation.
About Staglin:
Staglin Family Vineyard has been a cornerstone of Napa Valley since the 1980s, earning top scores and a devoted following among fine wine collectors. Founded by Shari and Garen Staglin and now led by their daughter Shannon, the winery celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Though its modern chapter began in 1985, the estate’s roots trace back to 1864, when original owners John and Mary Steckter planted 60 acres of vines alongside wheat and cattle pastures on the Rutherford Bench.
Today, this prized site is widely recognized for its excellence, with neighbors like Scarecrow, To Kalon, and Joseph Phelps Insignia. The Staglin family has carefully stewarded the vineyard with longtime viticulturist David Abreu and an impressive roster of winemakers over the years, including Luc Morlet, Bob Levy, Celia Welch, Michel Rolland, Andy Erickson, and now Fredrik Johansson.
Napa Valley’s vintner community is generous, but the Staglins stand out—raising over $600 million for brain and mental health through their One Mind Music Festival. They also donate 100% of profits from their SALUS wines to the cause.
