The 2022 Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a pure and elegant expression of the estate, showing a focused core of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark cherry framed by fine, polished tannins. Lifted aromatics of violets, graphite, and subtle spice lead into a wine that’s vibrant, balanced, and grounded by the vineyard’s signature minerality. The finish is long and refined, with gentle notes of cedar and crushed stone. Approachable now yet built to age, the 2022 is another classic from this historic St. Helena estate.

Spottswoode Estate: A Napa Valley Benchmark
It feels almost redundant to introduce a winery as iconic as Spottswoode—an estate with more than forty vintages under its belt and a history of multiple 100-point wines. Yet every time we try to capture what makes this winery so extraordinary, we’re reminded just how much they continue to lead the way. Certified organic since 1992, biodynamic, Regenerative Organic Certified, a B Corporation, solar powered, TRUE Zero Waste certified—and consistently producing some of Napa Valley’s most admired wines. We recently revisited the highly anticipated 2021s, and they were everything we hoped for: precise, expressive, and unmistakably Spottswoode.

The estate vineyard sits on the alluvial fan at the base of the Mayacamas, where gravelly, well-drained soils and cool morning breezes yield wines known for purity, finesse, and balance. This site consistently produces Cabernet with energy, structure, and a distinctive perfume—hallmarks of Spottswoode.

Led by Winemaker & Vineyard Manager Aron Weinkauf, the team carries forward a meticulous, vineyard-first philosophy. With decades of organic and biodynamic farming behind them, their restrained, thoughtful approach lets the vineyard speak clearly, resulting in wines of grace, longevity, and true estate character.
