The cool mornings and sunny afternoons of the Windsor Oaks Vineyard, situated on a rocky knoll in the foothills of the Mayacamas, make this a perfect site for Sangiovese. The moment we tasted this wine, we wanted to scoop up a case for our next dozen pizza or pasta nights. A nose of Bing cherry and rose lead to a medium-bodied palate with crunchy red current and firm tannins. The use of large puncheons, a reference to classic Italian tradition, allow the quality of the grape to shine through with minimal oak influence.
Windsor Oaks Vineyards takes pride in producing consistent high-quality winegrapes and is located within three of California's best known appellations AVAs for sourcing fine grapes: Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast and Chalk Hill. The property is in Sonoma County, just south of Healdsburg in Windsor, CA. The Windsor Oaks Vineyards overlook the Russian River Valley to the west as well as the Alexander Valley and the Mayacamas Mountains to the East. Their 710-acre Estate (210 acres under vine) contains diverse micro-climates, including numerous soil and slope combinations.
