Kinsman Eades ‘Aberro’ Diamond Mountain Chenin Blanc 2023
Shae and Nigel Kinsman, the acclaimed duo behind Kinsman Eades, are known for their 100-point Cabernets—but their passion extends beyond Bordeaux varieties to Chenin Blanc. Inspired by their love of Chenin from South Africa and the Loire Valley, they planted it on Diamond Mountain’s southwest-facing slopes at the former Reverie Vineyard, rich with decomposed volcanic ash. Meticulously farmed, the grapes are whole cluster pressed and fermented in large, seasoned oak barrels. Lees stirring adds texture and a lingering mid-palate, while the finish remains bright and zesty. Their Aberro label, meaning “to wander”, features Renaissance dancers from a 16th-century Jacques Callot engraving, capturing the wine’s adventurous spirit with notes of white peach, lime zest, and wet rock.
RAEN ‘Royal St. Robert’ Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2023
The Mondavi name is iconic in Napa Valley, but Robert Mondavi’s legacy lives on through his grandsons, Carlo and Dante. Sons of Tim Mondavi (Continuum Estate), the brothers pursue their passion for Pinot Noir on the Sonoma Coast at Royal St. Robert Vineyard, named for their grandfather. The brothers view sustaining the land as equally important to producing exceptional wine. The Royal St. Robert Vineyard, named for their grandfather, is organically farmed with Goldridge sandy loam soils, 658 ft. elevation, and Southeast exposure. Like the wines of the most famous Burgundy houses, the Pinot is 100% whole cluster with native fermentation. It is then aged in French oak, only 10% of which is new, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Layer after layer reveals, starting with floral aromas and a hint of smoke. The palate displays notes of black tea and blood orange- a bottle to linger over.
Mythical Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Winemaker Aaron Pott has one of the most classic pedigrees you could encounter, having served as director of famed Château Figeac in Bordeaux and crafted wines for Napa Valley icons like Beringer and Seven Stones. Anthony Perliss came to wine later, after a career as an art director in New York, Paris, and Milan. He returned to the Bay Area when his father purchased a vineyard in the Calistoga foothills, where Anthony, with his eclectic background, became captivated by Napa’s wilder, more mysterious corners. Their partnership, Mythical, became an outlet to explore Napa’s lesser-known varieties and styles—an adventure through the valley’s rich and untamed landscape. The inaugural 2022 vintage comes from several preeminent high-elevation vineyards, including Stagecoach on Atlas Peak, Pott Art on Mt. Veeder, and Remedium on Howell Mountain. The wine is remarkably approachable in its youth, absolutely bursting with rhubarb and plum pie with hints of tobacco leaf—juicy, unctuous, and hedonistically delicious.
