In a valley now dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, the 'Plinio’s Block' Red Blend is a rare throwback to Napa’s early winemaking roots—a field blend from one of Rutherford’s oldest and most storied vineyard sites. This historic block on the Morisoli Ranch, family-farmed for over a century, was planted and maintained in the tradition of interplanted varietals, including Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Carignan, and Alicante Bouschet.

While most Napa estates have shifted to monovarietal, Bordeaux-focused wines, this blend stands out as a true anomaly—a wine that speaks to a time when vineyards were planted for balance and resilience, not conformity. The 2023 vintage carries that spirit forward, offering a deeply expressive wine marked by wild berry fruit, black licorice, peppercorn, and earthy spice, all framed by the signature structure of Rutherford dust.

Texturally generous yet balanced by freshness, it delivers both rustic charm and polish, offering a glimpse into a disappearing style of Napa Valley winemaking that once defined the region but is now rarely seen.

The Morisoli family has owned this 53-acre property tucked at the base of the Mayacamas mountain range since 1902. It's located in the heart of renowned Rutherford bench along Neibaum Lane. This is hallowed ground in the valley with neighbors including Inglenook and Scarecrow’s JJ Cohn Vineyard. Morisoli vines grow in alluvial soils eroded from the Mayacamas mountain range, resulting in well-drained soils that consistently produce complex wines with firm tannins and abundant fruit flavors. The grape harvest was sold entirely to other producers until son Chris returned home after a career in the army with a determination to produce the family’s own wines. After Chris convinced his parents to get on board with the cause, the family produced its first vintage in 2018 with the help of winemaker Joel Aiken.
