rafted by winemaker Mike Smith, Scarlett’s Proprietary Red offers an uncommon, compelling expression of Rutherford terroir through an equal blend of Petit Verdot and Grenache grown on the historic McGah Family Estate. Benefiting from Rutherford's classic gravelly loam soils and the long, moderate 2023 growing season, the wine achieves impressive depth while retaining excellent structural freshness. Aromas of dark raspberry, blueberry, and black plum merge with notes of crushed herbs, baking spice, and subtle toasted oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied and supple, framing a dense core of dark berry fruit with fine, integrated tannins and a streak of savory minerality. Smooth and well-balanced through a long finish, it drinks delightfully upon release while offering the stamina to cellar gracefully for five to ten years.
Scarlett Wines is a family operation owned by the McGah family, who are most notably known for co-founding the Oakland Raiders. Representing over four generations of wine growers, the family’s personal touch can be felt from the soil to the glass. The winery previously operated under the name McGah Family Cellars and rebranded in 2015 in honor of its flagship wine, Scarlett, which is named after the founder’s daughter.
