Steve Matthiasson is an exceptional viticulturist, cultivating today's best vineyards throughout the valley. But we also love his own winery, founded by him and his wife Jill. They focus on producing unique varietals alongside traditional ones, like this single-vineyard Cabernet. Planted in 2001, the ‘Dead Fred Vineyard’ in Napa's Coombsville AVA is farmed organically, with multiple harvest passes to ensure perfect ripeness. The volcanic soils impart natural minerality and structure to the wine. The Cabernet is fermented slowly at low temperatures to preserve its aromatics and aged in a mix of new and used French barriques, making it more approachable in its youth. Dark fruit and graphite notes lead to a satisfying, lingering finish. Only 390 cases were produced.
