Lingua Franca began with a lofty goal and a wine world dream team. After Master Sommelier Larry Stone acquired the stunning estate vineyard (previously Janzen Farm) in 2012, he assembled an unbeatable team including Dominique Lafon and Thomas Savre, formerly of Evening Land, Domaine Dujac, and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. The trio set out to make wines expressive of the unique Willamette Valley, but with a foundation of traditional French technique. ‘Mimi’s Mind,’ named for visionary viticulturist Mimi Casteel, is a standout in an already strong lineup. A pioneer of regenerative farming, Mimi’s work enhances both her land and the surrounding environment, inspiring the Lingua Franca team to name the cuvée in her honor. Hand-picked and 100% destemmed, the fruit is wild yeast fermented and aged 12 months in 24% new French oak. Aromas of anise, red currant, and tarragon give way to a textured palate of black tea and raspberry with a long, lifted finish.
