Joviah is the personal project of winemaker Victoria Coleman, whose resume includes time at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Opus One and Château Mouton Rothschild. With Joviah, Victoria focuses on capturing the rugged intensity of high-elevation sites, and the Wulff Vineyard on Atlas Peak is a premier example of this philosophy. Situated on steep volcanic slopes, this vineyard’s close-row planting demands entirely hand-tended farming, yielding small, concentrated clusters that naturally balance mountain power with effortless elegance. The 2022 vintage is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot that opens with an evocative bouquet of blue and black berries, cassis, and black tea, underpinned by a savory thread of bay leaf and turned earth. On the palate, the wine has a plush entry and a velvety texture, layering juicy boysenberry and black plum with sophisticated accents of espresso, cocoa dust, and bittersweet chocolate. Aged for 18 months in 90% new French oak, the structure is impressively integrated, featuring fine, polished tannins that provide a seamless frame for the wine's vibrant mountain acidity. With only 430 cases produced, this is a limited-production gem that offers a clear window into the precision and depth possible on Atlas Peak by the hand of a great winemaker.
