We were very excited to learn about the new Ink Grade project perched in the Northeast corner of Howell Mountain amongst a forest of sequoias. The vineyard was originally planted in 1873, was purchased by Heitz in 1989, and is now operated by Lawrence Wine Estates. The distinct volcanic Tufa soil gives an incredible floral quality and granitic minerality to these wines. Winemaker Matt Taylor honed his skills at Domaine Dujac in Burgundy and Araujo Estates here in Napa, among others.

The ‘Andosol’ is one of the most elegant expressions of Zinfandel we’ve recently tasted. A mix of black and red fruits with distinct violet characterizes this nose with juicy pomegranate on the palate anchored by impressive structure. The wine saw 2 years in 30% new French oak.
