If you know the K. LAZ team, you know we are always hunting for our next “house” Champagne—that bottle of bubbles we can pop and pour on a Wednesday without feeling guilty, and we have found it in the form of Champagne Gamet. The producer was born of the marriage between the children of two grower-families that began tending vines shortly after WWI. While they innovate in the form of creating new cuvées, Marianne and her brother Jean-François, the grandchildren of the original Gamet couple, are steadfast in their commitment to produce as a classic Récoltant-Manipulant, in full control of all of their vines, to produce the highest quality. ‘Rive Droite’ is an unctuous blend of 85% Pinot Meunier and 15% Pinot Noir from 40-50 year old vines with 40% reserve wine dating back to 2014. 18 months on lees and a dosage of 4g/L make this Champagne approachable, satisfying, and just rich enough. This is an absolute delight with or without food.
