Sourced from a historic parcel within To Kalon Vineyard originally planted to vines in the 1870s, the 2023 Detert ‘Oakville’ Cabernet Sauvignon reflects generations of stewardship by the Detert family and the pedigree of one of Napa Valley’s most revered vineyard sites. Composed of 99% Cabernet Sauvignon with 1% Cabernet Franc and produced in an extremely limited quantity of just 275 cases, the wine offers layered notes of blackberry, dark chocolate, baking spice, and savory herbs over a seamless yet structured frame. Crafted by Tom Garrett, it combines remarkable depth and concentration with the polish, sophistication, and site transparency that define the finest expressions of Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon.
About Detert Family Vineyards:
Rooted in one of the most storied corners of To Kalon Vineyard, Detert Family Vineyards represents a rare intersection of Napa Valley heritage, family stewardship, and generational winemaking talent. For Tom Garrett, the connection is deeply personal—his family’s ties to To Kalon date back to 1954, when his grandmother purchased their portion of the vineyard for just $750 per acre. Raised among the vines alongside his brother John, Garrett developed an early passion for wine that evolved from garage-made Cabernet Franc into a celebrated career shaped at some of Napa Valley’s most iconic estates, including Turley Wine Cellars, Joseph Phelps Vineyards, Robert Mondavi Winery, and Revana Family Vineyard. Today, Garrett focuses exclusively on Detert and Dakota Shy, channeling decades of experience into wines that capture the pedigree, nuance, and singular character of this historic Oakville site.
