‘Atlas’ Cabernet, named for the Titan god who held the weight of the world on his shoulders, is the most powerful expression in the Dakota Shy lineup. The fruit is sourced from two sites-- a 900-foot elevation hillside vineyard with prime Southwest exposure in Calistoga and a valley floor vineyard in Oakville with classic, deep alluvial soils, offering incredible textural richness. The glass presents intense dark berry on the nose with wild cooked herbs followed by a dense palate of black currant mineral and thyme. The blend spent 18 months in 70% new French oak and is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. 450 cases were produced.
About Dakota Shy
Tom Garrett’s Napa Valley roots run deep. In 1954, his grandmother purchased the family’s portion of the To Kalon Vineyard for $750 per acre. Tom and his brother John grew up among the vines, carrying their passion for wine into adulthood. Tom got his start making small batches of Cabernet Franc in the family garage, and his career took off when he joined Turley Wine Cellars in 1999. He later honed his craft at Joseph Phelps, Robert Mondavi, and Revana Family Vineyards. Since 2013, he has focused exclusively on Detert Family Vineyards and Dakota Shy. Tom is the epitome of hands-on— when we called the Dakota Shy winery, he picked up the phone himself. That personal touch carries through to the wines, which are crafted with soul.
