Father-son duo Chris and Josh Phelps are predominately known as producers of Cabernet Sauvignon in the Napa Valley. Dad Chris has been at the helm of Ad Vivum Winery since 2005, and Josh founded the popular Steady State label, but the pair also has a love of mineral-driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which drove them to found Coil, focused on these Burgundy varieties from the California North Coast.
Signal Ridge Vineyard is rooted in the foggy Northerly Mendocino Ridge appellation, where crisp coastal air provides freshness in the wine. While there is a brightness here, the Pinot retains a dark cherry fruit core with notes of licorice and allspice. The concentration from the small berries of the 2021 vintage gives this wine the ability to age, but we highly doubt you’ll be able to resist it long enough.
