Eric believes deeply in the quality of Syrah produced in the region, which is why half his property is planted to the variety. Fracture is named for the limestone soils on the Westside of Paso Robles that fracture, rather than crumble. This area is known to produce the highest quality mineral-driven wines. Few things make me happier than placing my nose in a glass of well-made Syrah, and I instantly encountered that sensation when I smelled Fracture- black pepper, fresh leather, boysenberry- I could have been satisfied just continuing to smell this wine. The palate is seamless with fine and well-integrated tannins.

Paso Robles has been called the “Wild West” of wine regions, only substantiated by its history of having been founded by actual outlaws. The region is a place where the envelope is pushed, risks are taken, and rewards are savored. Winemaker Eric Jensen and his wife Lisa were ahead of the curve when they planted roots in Paso in 2001. Today, the potential for quality is far less a secret, with producers such as Juan Mercado of Realm and the storied Ridge Vineyards also working in the area.

The story of Booker Wines is one of humble origins. Eric Jensen lived a very modest childhood and still considers himself a farmer before anything else, though he has become both an exceptional winemaker and vintner. After training with Justin Smith of Saxum Wines and Stephan Asseo of L’Aventure Wines, Eric was drawn to Paso Robles. He and his wife Lisa purchased the land in 2001 and named it in honor of the previous owners, the Booker brothers.
