This is a must-try Cabernet from Jim Barbour, crafted by Celia Welch. While many recognize Jim as one of Napa Valley's premier viticulturists, it was his own wine that drew us together when I first moved to wine country. Jim has cultivated many renowned vineyards in the valley, including Hundred Acre, Grace Family, Checkerboard, Blankiet, Revana, Harbison, Keever, DR Stephens, and his estate vineyard on the western side of St. Helena. The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested by hand on September 13 and 27 from grapes grown in their two Saint Helena vineyards. It offers full-bodied richness with aromas and flavors of ripe Bing cherry, blackberry, cocoa powder, black tea, crushed flowers, and graphite. The silky tannins, a hallmark of Celia Welch's craftsmanship, lead to an extraordinarily lengthy finish. Enjoy the 2021 Barbour Cabernet Sauvignon in its youth after a brief decant; it will continue to evolve for 25-30 years.
