Coming from two distinct vineyards in Napa Valley, vintner and winemaker Dan Petroski loves them because their locations provide the warmest daytime temperatures and coolest nights, which is perfect for an expressive, crisp yet multi-layered Sauvignon Blanc. To keep this wine lively in the glass, Dan fermented and aged in 75% stainless steel barrels. Inspired by the Sauvignon Blanc wines of northern Italy, this offering pays homage to the delicious everyday wine workhorse of the region of Friuli. Dan explains, “While it is difficult to recreate these specific Italian wines anywhere else in the world, Sauvignon is our California interpretation of these great Italian white wines.” The 2020 offers intensity and freshness, with notes of lemon zest that lead onto the palate with a crisp mineral drive. Dan is currently making some of the most exciting Whites utilizing French and Italian varietals, sometimes combined and in this case solely Sauvignon Blanc.

At Massican, vintner and winemaker Dan Petroski shares his pursuit and love of unique and memorable white wines. Inspired by his roots in Italy, the Massican wines are made in Napa Valley while bringing the refreshing, bright style of Mediterranean white wines to California winemaking. In California Dan cultivates six white wine grape varieties in and around Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Four of the grape varieties trace their origins to Italy – Tocai Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Pinot Bianco and Greco.  Two of the grape varieties, although no strangers to Italy, are more widely known throughout the world – Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. These are must-try Whites that will deliver freshness with complexity and pure enjoyment to the palate.
