2016 was another good vintage for Sean Larkin’s Cabernet Franc. Bucking the trend to produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Sean saw the potential in one of his favorite red varietals, Cabernet Franc and first began producing it in the 2002 vintage. Sean thought that if he could produce Cabernet Franc in the style in which he appreciated it himself, it could be as expressive and focused as Cabernet Sauvignon. Sourced from the Pocai Vineyard, which is just down road from the famous Three Palms Vineyard in Calistoga, this 2016 is comprised of 85% Cabernet Franc with the remaining Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. It is a luscious, supple Red with a ruby/purple color, a touch of forest floor, a sweet kiss of incense, licorice as well as secondary notes of chocolate, black cherry and blackberry.
