This might be one of the most under-the-radar Cult Reds today coming from Napa Valley. While you might have enjoyed a bottle in the past, their all-estate blend coming from their two vineyards – one in the Oakville west bench and the other newer vineyard in the east bench of Stags Leap District- is perhaps one of the best Napa Valley Reds today at this price point. Their 2015 vintage is outstanding. We have started to include this in our wine tasting program and it rivals wines twice the price. Winemaker and vineyard manager, Jason Exposto, has been working with Futo since the beginning when he was first with David Abreu working to plant this estate. He stayed with the Futo team to become their assistant winemaker with Mark Aubert as the head winemaker and then assumed the role of full-time winemaker while also overseeing the farming. It is very rare that an estate winery of this caliber can have the same person to lead the charge of both arenas. “The wine perfectly captures both, the vintage and the synergy between our two sites. Rose hip, black cherry, and sweet savory aromas point to the natural richness of the year in its amped up expression. On the palate, chiseled cassis, raspberry and violet flavors pulse with energy, onto a layered graphitic infused bed of fine tannin. Even with all its aromatic and flavor explosiveness, there is a level of translucence and energy that elevate the wine.” 633 cases were produced.
