Le Artishasic crafts high quality, site-driven wines only working with small family growers. Vintner and winemaker, Artie Johnson, believes and utilizes the practice of minimal intervention as the vineyard terroirs are diverse and offer great character in the bottle without having to manipulate the grapes in the winery. This 2018 is a full-bodied Red blend and is an homage to the classic wines of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Graciano, and Cinsault. Artie separately vinified each varietal to compile the final blend. The fruit for this Red came from Contra Costa County in California and Artie picked this vineyard site earlier than other parts of Northern California to avoid sunburn or raisining. By doing this, the aromas pop immediately out of the bottle. There is a comforting richness on the palate that is balanced with well-integrated spice. As Artie explained to us, “The Vin Rouge has the full-bodied texture of the Southern Rhone, the structure of the Northern Rhone, and the delicious fruit of a classic New World wine. Notes of blackberry, cocoa, licorice, and wild strawberry fill the glass with a long finish. 215 cases were produced.
