We were fortunate to get this wine from Turley's own wine library, thanks to their longtime winemaker Tegan Passalacqua. Above St. Helena on the northeastern ridge of Napa Valley, the Petite Syrah (they spell it this way instead of Petite Sirah) and Zinfandel from Rattlesnake Ridge Vineyard is what Turley Wine Cellars has become most known for through the last decades. It is located on Howell Mountain and showcases dark, powerful, inky fruit. Thanks to its high elevation, it is a sun-drenched but cool and windy site that brings out the best characteristics of Petite Syrah. "Absolutely prodigious, the 2014 Petite Syrah Rattlesnake Ridge is a blockbuster with an extraordinary essence of blueberry and blackberry fruit, full-bodied texture, and stunning purity. This is a quintessential example of what Petite Sirah can achieve in the hands of a dedicated and talented winemaking staff. This is sensational stuff that should drink well for 30 or more years. Turley continues to excel with probably the most underrated grape in California, Petite Sirah. It is the ultimate antioxidant red wine grape, taking forever to shed tannin and be approachable, but lasting easily, in the best cases, for 20-30 or more years."
