Hallowed ground is exactly what Tench Vineyard is. Located in Oakville where the Vaca Ranch and valley floor converge to form eastern Oakville bench, it is the vineyard that rests alongside the hill just south of Oakville Crossroad. Some wineries lay claim to being ‘neighbors’ of Screaming Eagle but this is the winery that is. Tench has long been considered a Grand Cru vineyard site for wineries fortunate enough to have access to their fruit and in 2017, they began producing their own wine with the help of winemaker Russell Bevan. 2019 is the first vintage we have worked with in partnership with the Tench family as we tasted their Cabernet Sauvignon and Bromfield Red last month and loved them. Coming from their 42-acre vineyard, this is their flagship estate Oakville Cabernet. It offers immediate notes of blackberries, cassis, violets, and crushed rock. Multi-layered with velvety tannins, integrated acidity, and purity of fruit, this is a must-try Cabernet! You ought to decant this wine for an hour or two before drinking if you’re going to open now; otherwise, cellar it for a few years before enjoying. 200 cases were produced.
