While their first vintage was in 2010, it wasn’t until the 2016 vintage that we discovered this newer wine project when they told us that Thomas Rivers Brown had taken over the winemaking. Named after the horseracing term that refers to the trot that the horses make from the paddock to the starting gate, “Stretch Drive” is made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from the Tench Vineyard in Oakville, Ithaca Vineyard in Rutherford, and Red Head Vineyard off Silverado Trail in Napa. It was aged for 22 months in 78% new French oak. “The 2018 Stretch Drive delivers a sleek, decadent Cabernet Sauvignon. In the glass the wine displays a dark purple-red hue. Aromatic notes suggest dark chocolate shavings, nutmeg, blackberry compote, and cedar bark. The viscous palate is layered with an array of notes suggesting plum, tobacco leaf, cocoa nib, clove, and cassis reduction. There is a pleasing acid profile that frames the wine. This wine is very enjoyable today and should age gracefully in the cellar for years to come." -Thomas Rivers Brown, winemaker.
