Last month I tasted this new offering alongside Spottwoode’s Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc at the end of June and was pleased with how they had all developed in the bottle. I was even able to taste their 1993 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and was blown away with how well it had held up and how pretty of a wine it is now. This newest Cabernet, like in past vintages, comes from neighboring vineyards along with their own estate vineyard. “An energetic Napa Valley Cabernet with a bright and impactful first impression imparting flavors of black and red cherries. Medium-bodied with well-integrated, powdery tannins. Notes of blackberry bramble, raspberry, and red currant mingle with cocoa, dried herbs, and crushed graphite. Great acidity. Well balanced and structured, this wine can be enjoyed upon release, and can also be cellared and enjoyed in the years to come.”

Spottswoode is one of those iconic wineries in Napa Valley that have stayed not only relevant but have continued to lead the charge as one of the top Cabernet producers, regardless of all the new wineries emerging in the last 20+ years. With time in the bottle, their wines regularly emerge as a continuous star in blind tastings of older vintage lineups.
