The 2018 Native Red is a flirty, mouthwatering expression of El Dorado. Spellbinding aromas of raspberry and roses make this wine as delightful to sniff as it is to guzzle. “Lushly vivacious across the palate, plump and bright, the Native can be your food’s best friend, or simply a way to jazz up a Wednesday evening.” Skinner wanted to produce an approachable blend that incorporated all their unique, legacy fruit married with varieties that are more common, but nevertheless El Dorado through and through. They sought to produce a wine that, perhaps, cannot be made anywhere else. And so was born Native Red, a tribute to their original brand name, J. Skinner Native Wines which dates to 1861. Skinner Vineyards is comprised of their estate vineyard, Stoney Creek Vineyard, which is in the newer Fair Play AVA and surrounding neighboring vineyards in the El Dorado AVA. Their elevations range from 1400-2740 feet. For the grapes, that means that they see temperatures about 2-5 degrees cooler than other Foothills regions, with moderating breezes that upslope from the delta as temperatures rise throughout the day. In the evenings, cool air drains down from the Sierra, creating a terroir that is unique to Skinner. 500 cases were produced.
