While Jeremy Weintraub might have made wine at renowned Seavey Vineyard for years and is currently down in Paso Robles making Adelaida Vineyards, what he’s making in Santa Barbara County under his own wine label, SITE, is even more unique and delicious. The 2021 SITE Viognier Larner Vineyard displays a vibrant green and yellow color and offers aromas of lemon zest, white peach, and pear. The mouth has abundant acid and a hint of peach pit. Jeremy made this wine from one of his longtime grower vineyard partners, Larner Vineyard. Larner Vineyard is located at the southern edge of Ballard Canyon within Santa Barbara County. Ballard Canyon is a small but renowned grape-growing region just 20 miles from the Pacific Ocean. It’s measurably warmer and less windy than neighboring wine-growing regions in Santa Barbara County, thanks to its north-south orientation within the surrounding hills. Larner Vineyard’s 134-acre estate is planted to 34 acres of vines, all south-facing. The soils here are sandy and exceptionally well-drained, with a deep bed of limestone underneath. It is family-owned and farmed organically by the ‘Grape Whisperer’, Ruben Solarzano. 50 cases were produced.
