The 2015 Roy Estate Mr. Evans fills the glass with its deep, rich color, and aromatics of dark, red fruits with a hint of savory herbs and baking spices. Lush and rich from the outset, this layered wine possesses a refined and sophisticated mouthfeel and reveals notes of blackberry, chocolate-covered cherry, black currant, and a touch of pine resin. The 2015 Mr. Evans is a classic expression of Roy Estate terroir with great tension, acidity, freshness. Well-integrated tannins provide the wine with ample structure that ultimately yields to a long, ever-evolving finish. Decant and appreciate this wine today or cellar it for the next 8-10 years. Roy Estate's scenic 17-acre vineyard is a unique property blessed by its geography, topography, and terroir situated immediately south of the renowned Stags Leap District. Their gentle slopes are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. A creek divides the parcel roughly in half, producing two noticeably distinct sites on one small estate "akin to the Right Bank and the Left Bank in Bordeaux," says Roy Estate's winemaker Philippe Melka. The final blend for this Estate Red was 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot and 15% Petit Verdot. It was aged for 19 months in 100% new Taransaud French oak. 600 cases were produced.
