Pulido-Walker ‘Mt. Veeder Estate’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
This 2019 marks the second vintage from Pulido-Walker's estate Mt. Veeder property. Guided by their winemaker, Thomas Rivers Brown, after six years of letting the vines mature, they were ready to launch this newest single vineyard of Pulido-Walker. Like their 2018, this is comprised of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. As we’ve been hearing from many wineries and tasting for ourselves, the 2019 vintage is already showing great promise. For Pulido-Walker’s estate vineyard, Thomas said, “Once again we found ourselves with the greatest quantity of the clone, we’re liking the best from this site: 685. ¬The late-spring rains didn’t affect fruit set here, and the extended hang time gave us excellent ripeness and lots of options for dialing in the blend.” The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder Estate is “a stunning success. It's wonderfully perfumed, with floral-herbal notes reminiscent of violets and sage accenting cassis and black raspberry-chocolate chip ice cream, yet without any trace of actual sweetness. Full-bodied and concentrated, it's nevertheless fresh and vibrant, with a long finish framed by softly dusty tannins. Wow!” 98 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

Pulido-Walker ‘Mt. Veeder Estate’ Chardonnay 2021
Powerful, yet polished at the same time, this Chardonnay was one of the best wines showing at the tasting hosted by Thomas Rivers-Brown, highlighting most of the wines he makes today. As Thomas explains, "It will always be a Cabernet Sauvignon lover’s wine. It is a voluminous Chardonnay, deeply textured, with excellent palate weight and impact." The final blend of clones Thomas worked with is predominantly Wente, which contributes big bursts of sea spray and citrus fruits. “This dynamic fruit is nicely tempered by the small percentage of Montrachet that brings pressed flowers, beeswax, and lanolin—classic attributes of Chardonnay that add complexity in smaller quantities. Rounding out the blend, the Robert Young Clone continues to add cut hay, white chocolate, and more citrus fruits.”
