The Palisades Vineyard is truly one of the finest sites in all of California for Petite Sirah and in vintage 2015 the resulting wine is outstanding. Like the previous iterations, the wine pours inky dark into the glass but offers incredible fruit on the palate. Aromatically, this 2015 shows blackberries and floral notes, while the first taste will reveal a savory, well balanced rush of red fruit, spice and hints of secondary savory layers. Drink now with food or age it for the next decade; it will be hard to miss the window on this Petite Sirah. Before Mending Wall bought Palisades Vineyard, this heritage site was known as Carver Sutro Vineyard, a longtime producer known for making great Petite Sirah. 231 cases were produced.
Mending Wall is the culmination of Thomas Rivers Brown and his decades of winemaking efforts at Outpost, owned by Frank Dotzler and Pulido-Walker, owned by Mark Pulido and Donna Walker. Together, they formed Mending Wall, located on the eastern side of Silverado Trail between St. Helena and Calistoga. Here, Thomas produces wines for his numerous clients and he also produces its namesake wines. While I have tried many vintages of their offerings since their debut in 2013, I have always found their Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon to be the best and most worthy of buying.
