Coming from McGah’s estate vineyard on the eastern side of Rutherford, this Cabernet Sauvignon time and again is one of the best Cabernets showing in our tastings we host. Winemaker Mike Smith has been able to use this fruit for his other winery projects but for McGah’s own Cabernet label, these Cabernets are so worth more than their price. Winemakers Russell Bevan and Mike Smith continue to source from this esteemed vineyard for their own single vineyard Reds but for the price, McGah’s own Cabernet is a must-try. Like with the past 2015 vintage, this 2016 Cabernet release offers blackcurrants, blackberry, spring flowers and pen ink, in a full-bodied, dramatic style that leaves a lingering, satisfying finish on your palate.
McGah family vineyard estates are nestled just north of Oakville and bordering the Silverado Trail, in an area known for its unique terroir. The McGah family takes great pride in that fact that wines produced with their ultra-premium Rutherford bench fruit have been awarded 100-point scores, thanks to their first-class vineyard management team, impeccable farming practices and quality control. Purchased by E.J. McGah in 1990, the 65-acre vineyards continue to be family owned and operated today.
