2017 was another great vintage for vintner and winemaker Sean Larkin’s Cabernet Franc, which marks his 19th year making Larkin. Bucking the trend to produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Sean saw the potential in one of his favorite red varietals, Cabernet Franc and first began producing it in the 1999 vintage. Sean thought that if he could produce Cabernet Franc in the style in which he appreciated it himself, it could be as expressive and focused as Cabernet Sauvignon. Sourced from the Pocai Vineyard, which is just down road from the famous Three Palms Vineyard in Calistoga, this 2019 is comprised of 90% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a full-bodied, rich Red with a ruby/purple color, followed by blueberry and secondary notes of incense, licorice, cocoa, black cherry and blackberry.
