Last week in a line-up consisting of new Pinot Noir releases, Katy Wilson’s 2015 LaRue was a showstopper. I have enjoyed seeing the progression of Katy’s Pinot Noir efforts with her own wine label, LaRue. Each vintage, they have gotten even better both texturally and in complexity. This wine bursts with aromas of bright cherry, spiced plum, and raspberry preserves. Savory aromas of white sage and leather contribute to the intensity of this wine. On the palate, it is concentrated and powerful, yet elegant. The acidity is bright and mouthwatering with flavors of fresh cherry and strawberry shining through. The tannin is mouth-filling and offers a smooth and lingering finish. Katy gained a wealth of knowledge and experience with her time at Kamen, Flowers and Cobb Wines but it’s her own wine, LaRue, that’s what excites Pinot lovers now. 240 cases were produced.
