While most know of the famed Kongsgaard Winery for their sought-after Chardonnay, The Judge, they also make a few barrels of Albariño, from Hudson Vineyard in Napa’s Carneros AVA. It is typically only seen on some of the best restaurant lists throughout the country, but we were able to get a few cases to offer you. Minerally and dry with great aromatics of stone fruit and a touch of baking spice, this mouthwatering new 2019 release is one of the best Whites available coming out of California today.

Fifth-generation Napa natives, John and Maggy Kongsgaard began their wine endeavor in the 1970s planting The Judge vineyard on the Kongsgaard family land near Napa. The inaugural Kongsgaard wines came in 1996. They now produce The Judge, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon,  Syrah, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Albariño in their underground winery—a cave dug into the volcanic rock, high on the eastern rim of the Napa Valley where they have planted a spectacular mountain vineyard. They also direct the farming under long-term contracts on several perfect acres in Napa's Carneros AVA and near the winery. These intensely farmed, shy-bearing vineyards and their traditional low-intervention winemaking produce powerful, graceful wines—vivid expressions of vineyard and variety. Production is limited to what they, with their son Alex, can make with their own hands.
