Since 2007, Thomas Brown has been heading the winemaking team at Jones Family Vineyards with Jim Barbour farming this 10-acre estate Calistoga vineyard. While certainly not new to the block (1996 was their debut vintage), this winery has taken on a renaissance of sorts, thanks to the new(er) winemaking team which includes winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown and viticulturist Jim Barbour. Having worked with this vineyard for the last 6 years, they have a farming strategy that completely maximizes the potential of this exceptional site. The Sisters began in 2000 as a project to create a wine from the youngest of Jones Family Vineyards estate grown vines and has evolved into a wine that is a fitting example of classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. “The 2014 The Sisters has a complex brambly flavor profile that is highlighted by a pleasing high-toned finish that lingers for up to a minute. In the glass the wine possesses a purple-red core and a deep garnet halo. Aromas of allspice, oolong tea, blackberry, and fresh leather have a delicate interplay as they emerge from the glass. The palate suggests notes of macerated blueberries, nutmeg, flint, burnt ends and lavender. This wine has a sleek, uniform mouthfeel, complimented by a set of chalky fine tannins that provide structure to the whole."
