You couldn’t ask for a better vineyard source than from David Abreu’s own vineyard. This special Napa Valley Red comes from Las Posadas Vineyard. This 33-acre site on Howell Mountain has 15 acres planted by David Abreu and his team and rests at 2000 feet elevation. Tucked into the forest, winemaker Lloyd Matthews gets Cabernet Sauvignon from Block C3, which is comprised of Red Aiken soils that are deeply layered with white tufa. This incredibly full-bodied, 100% Cabernet spills into the glass with notes of black bramble fruit, blackberry liqueur, Asian spices, a touch of tar. It is followed by a palate of ripe black and blue fruits, eucalyptus, and rich tannins that flow across the palate. When immediately tasting the wine out of the bottle, you will notice that it needs to be decanted. But with a good 2-hour decant, it begins to show its potential. We highly recommend decanting it for at least a few hours or laying this down a few years before enjoying it. Lloyd, their winemaker, is no stranger to making full-bodied, age-worthy Cabernets as his last venture in winemaking was at Nine Suns before they sold their winery to Realm Cellars.
