Aubert, TOR, Kistler, Patz & Hall and Ramey are just a few wineries that rely upon Larry Hyde’s vineyard for sourcing great Chardonnay and their own 2015 is the newest release for the Hyde family’s own Chardonnay. 2015 was a cool year and the cold weather during May and June bloom made for a mixture of large and small berries with lower yields in the vineyard but provided great grape structure. This vintage is focused and expressive, starting with a big bouquet of spring flowers, followed by beautiful bright apple, pear, ripe gooseberry and peach flavors. The palate is full-bodied, supple in texture and followed by a long succulent finish. Larry Hyde founded Hyde Vineyards in 1979. Originally comprised of 100 acres of windy pasture and fruit orchards, Larry saw a vision and became a pioneer in a region that would soon become California’s second AVA, Los Carneros, Napa Valley, the only AVA to stretch between two counties, Napa and Sonoma. Today, 192 acres are planted to vines and is considered one of the ‘grand cru’ vineyards in California.
