Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard is one of the heritage vineyards owned and farmed by the Beckstoffer family and has been planted to vineyard for over 150 years. The clone 4 Cabernet Sauvignon vines that vintner/winemaker Benoit Touquette uses are lyre-trained to let in light and air. The Beckstoffers and Benoit have collaborated over the years to dial in the farming of his portion including the use of shade cloth late in the season. The soft filtered light in the heat of summer helps us maintain even ripening, allowing us approachability without sacrificing age worthiness in the finished wine. The wines grown from this rocky site are structured and masculine; they are left bank-inspired, but also with classic Beckstoffer Las Piedras fruit tones. Benoit grew up in Lyon, France thinking he would become a fighter pilot or an engineer. He never considered wine until he was in Bordeaux working mobile bottling lines to pay for graduate school. The infectious passion of the winemakers he met, showing up day after day with the same fire in their eyes, blew him away. He then switched his focus to oenology and completed two degrees, then left France to intern with renowned winemaker Andy Erickson (formerly of Screaming Eagle, Staglin and now Dalla Valle, Favia and Marciano) and explore uncharted possibilities in Napa Valley. In addition to Fait Main, Benoit is the full-time winemaker at Realm Cellars.
