Edge Hill was considered one of the finest wine estates in Napa Valley until it ceased production in 1907. Inspired by this legacy, Leslie Rudd restored this historic property and is now handcrafting a limited production of select wines, using exceptional grapes from heritage vineyard sites. Bacigalupi Vineyard first garnered the attention of the world when in the 1978 Paris Tasting, the winning Chateau Montelena Chardonnay came from this old vine Chardonnay site. Today, those same vines are what makes this Edge Hill Chardonnay so special. "The 2014 Chardonnay shows beautiful complexity with notes of hazelnut, French oak, crushed granite, pear and white flowers - aromas pour from the glass as it receives more air. On the palate, the wine opens smoothly but quickly builds to a powerful intensity. The old vine minerality commonly associated with the Bacigalupi's historic vineyards is very present and distinctive. The wine expresses itself in an unmistakably Burgundian fashion customarily difficult to capture in California, truly evoking the great chateaux of the Cote du Beane. The French oak is well integrated and the natural acidity in the wine will keep it fresh for many years."
